Volvo Ocean Race Leg 7 - Finish

The seven competing yachts in the latest edition of the Volvo Ocean Race are finally heading for the Solent at breakneck speeds, the wind having eventually shifted to a favourable direction after nearly a week of headwinds. This shift has allowed the skippers to point the bows of their stead's towards the finish line in the Solent and hoist their enormous spinnakers, ABN AMRO ONE (Black Betty) has ground out a 75 mile lead touching speeds in the low twenties over the last 24 hours, her ETA looks like Saturday 20th May afternoon/evening with the rest of the fleet arriving over the next 12hrs or so, the forecast for the Solent is 20 knots plus from the Southwest, which should produce a sight not to be missed with these turbo charged boat surfing along at 20 knots plus.

We still have a couple of ribs available for this event with departure from Ocean Village Marina, Southampton timed to meet the first boats as they pass the Needles and then follow them to the finish line just outside Portsmouth, please give us a ring to secure your boat as they are bound to be quickly snapped up. www.volvooceanrace.org

Saturday 29th April - Freedom of the Seas arrives in Southampton

The world's biggest cruise ship, The Freedom of the Seas arrived in Southampton on the May bank holiday weekend for a five day stay to celebrate her entry into service.

Rib Charter Solutions was engaged to provide a mobile camera platform that was fast yet stable to allow a Dutch media company to film an info commercial for their client to broadcast internally to their staff showcasing how their products are used in various environments. The client supplied numerous products that went into the contruction of this enormous cruise ship including the paint and other specialist coatings.

An early start was required as the ship was due to berth at 9:00am, the team met the ship just off Calshot Spit buoy just as the first rays of light broke through. We then escorted her down Southampton Water which enabled us to get the required shots of her underway. After a short break to allow the sun move to the right position we concluded the day with various close up shots. Filming was completed just after midday leaving plenty of time for the film crew to catch the Eurostar back home.

Huge crowds gathered along Southampton Water and at Mayflower park to witness the arrival of the Gigantic 'supership',  Freedom of the Seas as she arrived into Southampton's City Cruise Terminal on Saturday April 29th.

Weighing in at 160,000 tons, and stretching a whopping 1,112 feet long, the superliner  has a rock-climbing wall, a skating rink and even an onboard surfing pool which generates waves so passengers can surf at sea.

The enormous liner was based in Southampton at the Cruise Terminal near Mayflower Park until Wednesday 3rd May when she set off across the Atlantic for an official naming ceremony in New York.
